Guest sentiment
A snapshot of what local diners frequently mention about this location.
"Such a great dining experience. Buzzing. But not too loud. Impeccable service, thank you Georgia. All the staff were knowledgable and helpful. Food was next level. Prawn and crab toast, sashimi - amazingly fresh. Pork belly, crispy and so flavoursome. Slow cooked carrots were just delicious. Drinks menu extensive and well suited. Deserts - I cannot rate them more highly. Very busy. As they should be - book in advance. It was our last night in NZ and a brilliant end to a truly great epicurean tour of the north island. Thank you so much."
"We loved the creativity and presentation. The small plates were especially good. The Chili Sichuan Noodle dish is pretty spicy. They should warn you about it."
"Georgina was a lovely host. The food does take a while to come out but it was absolutely delicious. The chicken was flavorful and juicy, the cheesecake had just the right amount of sweetness without being overly sugary and the dumplings with the sauce.... it hit the spot. I like that some items can be reduced in size to accommodate a person who is eating by themselves."
"Incredible discovery. What a menu! Clearly a lot of work goes into the kitchen, as the dishes were absolutely delicious. This is exactly what we want when we go to a restaurant: to be surprised, discover new flavors, and say "omggg" at every bite (not just about the chili) ! Impeccable service as well, so many thanks to all the teams."
"Came here for my boyfriend’s birthday meal. We were served by Lizzie who was so friendly and helpful. We didn’t know what to order, so we got the $95 discovery menu. They just kept bringing food out, and everything was delicious! The highlight was the lamb shoulder with a delicious rich sauce, steamed rice & broccoli. The desert of the crème brûlée cheesecake was amazing also. Really enjoyable evening. The music is quite lively & loud, if you want a quiet, intimate dinner then this is not the venue for you"
"The best culinary experience ever. The level of creativity and execution is just mind-blowing!! Hats off to the Chef and team!! Service is great too, friendly yet professional and very attentive. The whole place is vibrant and lively. Make sure to book as they are very busy!!"
"Visiting from Australia, I put into chatgpt, I wanted suggestions for great restaurants in the Viaduct area, where we are staying.. This one was suggested.... Food was 10/10, if I could give a higher score I would. Share plates are the way to go. We started with the Beasty Fried Chicken with fermented red chilli, yuzu cucumber and kimichi seasoning... I'm going to dream about that red chilli sauce Onto the slow cooked coastal lamb shoulder... you have to eat lamb when you visit NZ, then onto Crispy Skin Pork Belly cooked on the Hibachi... Cocktails were great, my husband loved the Chipper Hazy Pale beer (which smells amazing, even though it's a beer - I'm not a beer drinker) If we could have fitted in a desert (we couldn't) the coconut vanilla rice pudding with rhubarb would have been my choice. Amazing food, drinks and service. Make sure you book in advance, as many people didn't and couldn't get a table."
"I’ve been to Osteria Francescana, Eleven Madison Park, and countless other great restaurants. But no other place has been able to come close to the flavours of Hello Beasty. The lamb shoulder is the Mona Lisa of dishes and should live in the Museum of Culinary Delights. The fried chicken was mouth-watering, the eye fillet super yummy particularly with its spicy condiments. Just incredible."
